Jo and her Portraits

About Jo Thompson

Jo Thompson, funky portrait artist Jo Thompson lives and works in the coastal town of Teignmouth in South Devon. She has been painting for as long as she can remember and owes her focus and commitment to a fascination with that which she observes around her - noticing colour, texture and shape and light in all its forms.

Jo's versatility extends to working in oils, acrylics, silks, and water colours. Jo is currently working on her favourite subject, facial portraiture, using a medium well abreast of current technology.

The Portrait Process

Computer portraiture involves the use of software coupled with digital pen and pad application. Each portrait is individually painted using this medium. Each stroke of the pen and each line creates the piece.

The skills of the Artist are employed as Jo creates, line by line, and stroke by stroke, a creative use of colour and tone, accent and shadow, all coming together to form a stunning visual portrait, a totally unique, 'one off' piece that ties together a contemporary, artistic, and funky treatment of the individual.

Each subject takes around 30 hours to complete. The finished work is proofed and then printed on a choice of either matt (308gsm) or textured (210gsm) fine art paper, employing what is known as the Giclée system of print production. This method ensures archival printing that will remain good in excess of 75 years.

These portraits make ideal gifts for birthdays, anniversaries, and commemorative events. They are also highly suitable for corporate usage, celebrity promotion etc.
